Legendary bodybuilder Dorian Yates carved out his own space in the sport with his intense training philosophy. He dominated the Mens Open division with unreal back development during his competition days. In a recent Instagram post, Yates shared the optimal time to perform a high-intensity workout for muscle growth.
Dorian Yates made a name for himself with insane muscle mass, size, and stellar conditioning in the 90s. Starting his career on the national circuit, he qualified for the Mr. Olympia competition in 1991. He put in a strong performance and won silver behind eight-time champion Lee Haney in his Olympia debut.
Yates returned with a vengeance the following year and secured the coveted Sandow trophy. He went on to successfully defend his title five times in a row and transitioned from professional competition after his sixth win at the 1997 Mr. Olympia. In addition to his package, he was also notable for his intense training techniques and tendency to stand away from the spotlight.
Yates laid out his favorite bodybuilding cycles he’s used in competition last October. She revealed Dianabol as her favorite steroid of hers and detailed her use of TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) in daily micro-dosing. He opened up to the strong mindset that never let him compromise on training, diet or recovery. While he has no regrets, he has admitted that he could have taken things a little easier.

Dorian Yates treated fans to his favorite exercise for building muscle in the back earlier this year. He encouraged the use of underhand grip barbell rows while giving some intensity recommendations for packing. Then, he gave advice on how to do lat pulldowns correctly by pulling with your elbows.
Yates gave fans a look at some of his top high-intensity training techniques to optimize workouts last month. He differentiated high intensity training from high volume training and illustrated the difference in using free weights versus machines.
The Shadow promoted incorporating lying hamstring curls with full range of motion and slow negative weeks ago. He believes in weight control at every point to activate muscle growth.
Dorian Yates shares the optimal time for high intensity training
In a recent Instagram post, Dorian Yates shared the optimal time to perform a high-intensity workout. Because the sessions are more grueling, he suggested limiting workout times to 45 minutes.
“Overtraining and Underrecovery!” wrote Yates. “You have to give your body stress it is not used to in order to get a response. Bodybuilding is not an endurance sport, the goal is to train hard, heavy and intensely to stimulate muscle growth. If you train too much, your progress will stop.
“It is not possible to train at high intensity for too long, 45 minutes is enough. Go to the gym, work out and go out. Every minute of my training was incredibly intense but with purpose and focus.”
Dorian Yates has revealed his diet and off-season training routine and race prep along with the cycles of steroids he’s been using for the past month. He revealed that he has given up steroids altogether and credited TRT with helping improve his mental health after retirement.
